In 2022, there were over 160 million females and over 163 million males in the US. If we use the CDC statistics that over half of females and almost 1 in 3 males have experienced sexual violence, then that would equate to:
Let's work together to:
Historically, most government and community efforts have been around around post trauma support. Those efforts and programs are critical but our society has never made sexual assault prevention a priority. Per the CDC, 1 in 2 females have experienced some form of sexual assault. So, when do we focus on prevention? When do we modernize antiquated laws, policies, and procedures around sexual assault? When do we have a national incident log that allows the survivor to control the data around their assault and possibly identify serial perpetrators?
The Office on Violence Against Women was established in 1995. How has our society changed in the past 30 years as it relates to sexual assault?
The time is now for survivors to come together. As you can see from the numbers above, our power and strength is in the sheer number of sexual assault survivors. We just have to work together rather than separately. There are a lot of great non-profits in this space doing great work, but when they work separately and raise funds separately then we are not as strong nor are we as effective as when we work together.
Let's show the strength in our numbers.
